The Keystone Enneagram Institute is dedicated to teaching, learning, and using the Enneagram combining psychology, spirituality, and somatics, to advance professional and personal growth.
The Enneagram is an extraordinarily accurate tool for identifying each individual's personality type structure; providing powerful methods for expanding awareness beyond our habitual ways of thinking, feeling, and acting; working with reactivity when we go on "automatic'; and increasing our capacity to be receptive to change and growth.
Personality is wired into the nervous system as a childhood survival strategy, yet limits us in adulthood. It consists of our worldview, self-identity, coping strategy, defense mechanism, bias of attention, blind spots, and avoidances, which create barriers to receptivity and change.
Type 1: Perfectionist/Reformer believes you must be good and right to be worthy. They are conscientious, responsible, improvement-oriented and self-controlled; and can be critical, resentful, and self-judging.
Type 2: Helper/Giver believes you must be needed in order to be loved. They are caring, helpful, supportive and relationship-oriented; and can be prideful, overly intrusive, and demanding.
Type 3: Performer/Achiever believes you must accomplish and succeed in order to be loved. They are industrious, fast-paced, goal-focused and efficiency-oriented; and can be inattentive to feelings, impatient, and image-driven.
Type 4: Romantic/Individualist believes you must obtain the longed-for ideal relationship or situation in order to be loved. They are deeply feeling, empathetic and authentic to self; and can be dramatic, moody, and self-absorbed.
Type 5: Observer/Investigator believes you must protect yourself from a world that demands too much and gives too little in order to assure security in life. They seek self-sufficiency and are non-demanding, analytical, and unobtrusive; and can be withholding, detached and overly private.
Type 6: Loyal Skeptic/Trooper believes you must gain protection and security in a hazardous world that can't be trusted. They are trustworthy, inquisitive, good friends, and questioning; and can be overly doubtful, accusatory and fearful.
Type 7: Epicure/Enthusiast believes you must keep things upbeat to assure a good life. They are optimistic, adventurous, and seek multiple options and pleasurable possibilities; and can avoid pain and limitations, be uncommitted, and self-serving.
Type 8: Protector/Boss believes you must be strong and powerful to assure protection and regard in a tough world. They seek justice and are direct, strong and action-oriented; and can be overly impactful, excessive, and impulsive.
Type 9: Mediator/Peacemaker believes that to be accepted and valued you must blend in and go along to get along. They seek harmony and are grounded, comfortable and steady; and can be stubborn, self-forgetting, and conflict-avoidant.
